COMMON QUESTIONS

Our matcha is consciously sourced from a single estate tea garden in the renowned Uji region of Japan, celebrated for its ideal terroir for premium matcha production. Carefully ground to order, our matcha is harvested during the first spring flush from a single tea cultivar, ensuring unmatched freshness, vibrant colour, and exceptional flavour for your daily practice.

Certified organic by the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS), our matcha is cultivated without synthetic chemicals. Our tea farmers prioritize biodiversity, stewarding the land and nurturing the soil to produce tea with a truly natural flavour, embodying the art of sustainable farming.

Ceremonial grade matcha is the highest echelon of matcha quality. This grade is distinguished by its refined taste, deep verdant colour, and smooth texture, crafted from the youngest and most tender leaves of the first harvest. Unlike culinary matcha [flavour and colour not as verdant or complex], our ceremonial matcha offering presents with a bright green hue and rich umami flavour that is a delight to savour.

Matcha is a powerhouse of antioxidants, providing a concentrated dose that exceeds that of regular green tea [a single cup of matcha contains the same antioxidants as 10 x cups of green tea]. It also provides a steady energy boost without the wired feeling, thanks to its unique combination of caffeine and L-theanine. Incorporate matcha into your daily wellness routine to enjoy enhanced focus, calm energy, natural detoxification, and immune-boosting polyphenols.

Yes, matcha contains caffeine [significantly less than coffee] with a twist. It's caffeine works in harmony with L-theanine [a naturally occurring amino acid] to deliver a slow, steady release of energy. Unlike coffee, matcha provides a calm focus and clarity without the typical caffeine crash or jittery anxious feelings.

The taste of premium, ceremonial grade matcha is vastly different to the culinary grade that is frequently used in a commercial setting. If you’ve tried matcha before and haven’t liked it, we do recommend trying a premium matcha powder to get a true matcha taste experience. Our high grade organic ceremonial matcha boasts a smooth, subtly sweet flavour with earthy undertones and a signature umami finish.Well-balanced with vegetal notes and mild nuttiness, making it a go-to for your daily morning tea ritual.

Preparing matcha is a mindful ritual that enhances its enjoyment. Usucha [meaning thin, light tea] is the traditional way to make high grade powdered green tea and the most authentic, healthful way to experience ceremonial grade matcha. To make a traditional bowl of matcha, sift 1-2 scoops [1/2 tsp] into a tea bowl. Add a splash of hot water at 80°C* and swirl into a liquid paste with whisk. Pour in 100ml of hot water and whisk rapidly in a zigzag motion until frothy. Top up with more hot water to balance taste accordingly. Avoid boiling water, as it can affect the flavour profile. Best served in the morning or early afternoon. Matcha can also be blended with your milk of choice as a matcha latte, iced matcha or woven into a smoothie.

Store matcha in a cool, dark, dry environment, sealed tightly to protect it from light and air. During warmer months, refrigeration can help preserve its vibrant colour and flavour. Once opened, consume your matcha within two months, to experience optimal flavour and quality.
