ABOUT

A MODERN PERSONAL PRACTICE

Wabi is tea for everyday life. The moment you look forward to drinking in each morning, prepared in a way that suits your personal taste and facilitates the modern daily ritual.

OUR TEA

JAS certified organic, ceremonial grade, single origin green tea suited for daily, intentional practice.

We offer premium certified organic and regenerative green tea with a mindful approach. Our range is purposefully simplified with grounding tea offerings to facilitate the modern ritual. Japanese matcha or loose leaf to suit your personal taste and ritual.

  • Farmed by fourth-generation producers, our matcha is organically grown with a low-impact approach. The Wabi Tea offering comes straight from the fertile terroir of Japan to your bowl, with all steps from farming to milling occurring at the source. Our matcha tea is also single cultivar, ensuring consistency and the distinct umami flavour we prefer.

  • Our high-grade matcha is Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) certified organic. Grown without the use of synthetic chemicals, our master tea farmers emphasise biodiversity in their fields, stewarding land and soil and maintaining a true representation of what tea should taste like – artfully farmed in tune with nature.

  • Ceremonial grade matcha refers to the highest echelon of matcha quality, intended for Japanese tea rituals and mindful sipping. Only the youngest, most tender shade-grown leaves are utilised at Wabi Tea, with the highest concentration of chlorophyll [reflected in the vibrant green hue] and a smooth, delicate green tea powder as a result.

  • To retain the freshness, flavour and overall matcha benefits, our tea is ground to order [at the source]. Our partner farmers traditionally stone mill the green tea leaves, maintaining nutritional integrity and reducing the risk of oxidation [which leads to dull colour]. Wabi Tea matcha powder is smooth, alive and energetic, available in foil refill bags designed for 30-day use.

  • Originally in Japan, ‘tencha’ [tea leaves produced for grinding into matcha] was ground on small stone mills by hand for personal use and in traditional tea ceremony. The matcha was milled for purpose in small portions, making only what was necessary for the present moment. This meant oxidisation was minimal and freshly ground matcha remained in the most potent state possible. It is the reason why our ceremonial matcha is ground to order in a small batch offering of 30g size, to maintain in a sense this tradition and a reverence for this pure, vibrant untainted green matter. Consuming high grade matcha this way means you are receiving the most vibrant matcha possible outside of Japan, the maximum health benefits and overall a far superior sensory matcha tea experience.

  • Beyond an avenue for mindful sipping and meditation, matcha green tea is laden with proven health benefits. Rich in antioxidants and chlorophyll, it detoxifies and supports immunity and digestive health. The potent combination of L-theanine [an amino acid found in tea leaves] and caffeine offers a smooth and steady, sustained energy boost without the crash. A source of energy and calm focus throughout the day.

The Wabi Way

Wabi Tea was born from a simple but profound belief that the way you begin your day matters to how you navigate everyday life and move through the world.

We take our name from a 15th century Japanese word. One that described the quiet beauty found in a life lived simply. Close to nature. Humbly. Without excess. What looked like lack, over time, became something else entirely, a different kind of richness. One built on noticing. On slowing. On finding meaning in the ordinary. That philosophy became the foundation of the Way of Tea. We embody and honour the spirit and teachings of tea, because we believe that this living tradition carries something essential for how we live today.

We are not simply a matcha brand. We are a daily practice. Our teas are ceremonial grade, single origin and 100% JAS certified organic, sourced from small family farms in Uji and Kyushu, Japan, where the standard of craft is matched only by the depth of dedication. Stone ground to order. Nothing added. Nothing taken away. But the tea is the beginning, not the destination.

The Wabi Way is an invitation to return to yourself. To make space, however briefly, for stillness amidst the noise. To build a practice that is entirely your own, one mindful sip at a time. Your practice doesn't need to be perfect. It just needs to begin.

A Daily Practice

Most of us move through our days without ever fully arriving in them. We wake to demands. We move from one obligation to the next. We collapse at the end of it and wonder where the time went. Somewhere in the middle, between the morning rush and the evening unwind, there was a version of the day that belonged entirely to us. We just didn't claim it.

A daily practice is the act of claiming it.

It doesn't need to be long. It doesn't need to be silent. It doesn't require a perfect routine or space, or an absence of children, noise or chaos. It requires only the decision, repeated daily and imperfectly, to return to yourself before the world fully arrives. Or after it has passed. Or somewhere quietly in the middle.

For us, that return begins with tea.

The preparation itself is the first act of presence. The sifting. The water temperature. The whisk moving through the bowl. A few deliberate minutes that exist outside the noise. A stillness that is not without movement, but the absence of the unnecessary. Then the first sip, and something shifts. Energy resets. Thoughts settle. The day, whatever it holds, feels more navigable. This is the modern personal tea ceremony. As long or as brief as the day allows. No special expertise required beyond the willingness to begin and find your own unique Wabi Way.

What you return to daily is what carries you forward. We believe that wholeheartedly. Which is why we built everything – the tea, the philosophy, the community, around the simple act of showing up for your practice, one day at a time.

Start small. Start today. Start with a bowl.

'What you return to daily is what carries you forward.'

FINDING TEA AT ELEVATION

Founder

Some discoveries don't announce themselves. They arrive quietly, in a cup.

For Suzanna, it was experiencing the art and beauty of Japanese green tea — encountered in the mountains over twenty years ago, and never really left. What drew her in wasn't just complexity and flavour. It was the purity, the simplicity. Tea, nature, a moment of stillness. In a world already beginning to move too fast, it felt like a small but significant act of return.

In the years that followed, life moved — as it does — across continents, cities, cultures and seasons. Through the teahouses of Kyoto and the fields of Uji, the contemporary tea culture of California and New York, the rustic huts of the Himalayas and the hills of Darjeeling et al. Different places, different cups. But always the same thread: that the act of pausing, preparing and sipping tea carved out a space in time for connection and presence.

Then came 2021, and a move to the South Coast of NSW with her young family. A quieter pace. A chance to breathe. And somewhere in that slower rhythm, Wabi Tea took shape — not as a grand vision, but as a gentle return. A desire to share the experience of this beautiful tea and her exploration of presence as a practice.

Suzanna is a mother, a founder, and — like most of us — someone still finding her way to the present moment in a full and busy life. Her daily cup of tea isn't a perfect ritual. But the quiet act of showing up — one mindful sip at a time — and finding that what you return to daily is what carries you forward.
